About the Opportunity
The University of Tasmania seeks an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic leader to drive its Strategic Plan for Aboriginal Engagement and embed Indigenous knowledges across teaching, research, and governance. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), this senior role oversees the Riawunna Centre for Aboriginal Education, chairs the Indigenous Student Success Governance Committee, and provides expert advice to the Executive Team.
This role will provide strategic leadership to shape our place-based institution with Indigenous knowledges at its heart. Through embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, and leadership across the University this role will advance equity, cultural integrity, and engagement with community and create a culturally safe and supported learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to succeed.

In addition, you will bring to the role:
This is an Identified position. The appointee will be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. The University of Tasmania Identified Position Guidelines provide the requirements for confirmation of identity.
A PhD (or equivalent) and an outstanding record in providing academic leadership.
An international academic reputation in a relevant discipline reflecting an outstanding record of research publication and/or learning and teaching, competitive funding success and promotion of excellence in research and/or teaching. A demonstrated capacity to lead academic teams.
A thorough knowledge of Tasmanian and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, societies and community needs and aspirations in respect of higher education, and extensive experience in facilitating the involvement of key stakeholders – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, Aboriginal communities and organisations – in the University’s programs.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in communicating strategic objectives, motivating colleagues, mentoring of staff, chairing meetings and formulating policy.
Experience in developing collaborative plans and strategies for the achievement of the University’s educational goals, understanding the academic environment, interpreting research performance data, and developing effective support programs.
Demonstrated success in maintaining strong and productive relationships and networks with colleagues and external stakeholders.
