Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medicine

• Part-time (0.5 FTE) fixed-term till June 2026 based in Burnie

About the opportunity

The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medicine is a member of the Rural Clinical School (RCS) in the School of Medicine within the College of Health and Medicine.

The RCS, supported by the Commonwealth government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program aims to increase the number of health professionals working in rural, remote, and regional Australia. Specifically, the RCS provides rural education training for medical students in Tasmania with a goal of increasing the subsequent uptake of rural health careers.

As members of the broader College and School of Medicine academic team, teaching focused Lecturers and Senior Lecturers working in the RCS deliver the integrated rural undergraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. The first and third years of the degree will be delivered wholly from Burnie for the first time in 2025 with year two commencing in 2026 when all five years of the medical degree will then be available to study in Burnie.

What you’ll do:

• Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
• Develop effective clinical learning and teaching strategies based on contemporary evidence and practice.
• Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of a high quality commensurate with the academic level of appointment and incumbent qualifications and experience.
• Mentor and support rural medical students both at an individual and peer group level to succeed in their rural medical training pathway.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and with rural health service providers locally and nationally and wider community
• Maintain currency of clinical practice and seek out and engage in opportunities to continuously improve academic learning and teaching skills.

What we’re looking for:

• Current general registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• A minimum of two years postgraduate clinical and professional experience together with acceptance into a specialist medical training program.
• Excellent communication and high-level organisational skills, with the demonstrated capacity to work effectively with staff, students, health care professionals, health service providers and external organisations
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated understanding of rural and remote health service and workforce issues.

Salary details

Academic Level B

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $150,759 comprising base salary within the range of $110,992 to $128,854 plus 17% superannuation.

Academic Level C

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $178,024 comprising base salary within the range of $133,981 to $152,157 plus 17% superannuation.
