About the opportunity

We are seeking a teaching‑focused Senior Lecturer within the School of Paramedicine and Public Safety, which delivers programs in Paramedicine, Law Enforcement and Police Studies, and Emergency Management across Hobart, Launceston, and through a long‑standing partnership with the Tasmania Police Academy.

Police Studies, together with the Tasmanian Institute of Law Enforcement Studies (TILES), is experiencing significant growth, including expanding national and international partnerships and the ongoing development of programs aligned with contemporary policing and public safety practice.

The Senior Lecturer will provide academic leadership in teaching and curriculum development, contributing to the design, coordination, and delivery of high‑quality learning experiences across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Working collaboratively with colleagues, the role includes unit coordination, supervision of student learning, mentoring early‑career academics, and participation in governance and service activities.

The successful applicant will also support the strategic growth of the discipline by strengthening relationships with policing and public safety organisations and enhancing the reputation of Police Studies.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality Police Studies education that supports strong student engagement and prepares graduates for contemporary policing and public safety roles.
  • Contribute to the design and renewal of practice-informed curriculum that reflects current policing practice, policy, and emerging issues in law enforcement and community safety.
  • Support and mentor colleagues in effective teaching practice, curriculum development, and the adoption of new learning technologies.
  • Contribute to the University’s strategic and operational objectives through active engagement in teaching, governance, and service within the school.
  • Coordinate and deliver scholarly coursework units of a high standard, including development of teaching materials, delivery of classes (online and face-to-face), and assessment of student learning.

­What we’re looking for:

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience in University-level teaching and learning activities.
  • A record of contributing to the building and maintaining of effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Background in Law, applied ethics, psychology or Cyber Crime/Security

Qualifications and Licences

  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence or manual vehicle licence
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (or to be obtained)
  • Regular travel between campuses may be required to deliver teaching and learning outcomes
  • Willingness to undertake a medical assessment based on meeting the inherent position requirements

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $184,076 comprising base salary within the range of $138,536 to $157,330 plus 17% superannuation.
