About the opportunity

Agriculture is undergoing a revolution triggered by the exponentially increasing use of digital technologies and data-driven innovations. We are seeking to appoint a Biostatistician in the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture which is part of The College of Sciences and Engineering.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide expert advice to staff and postgraduate students in the scientific planning, design, data analysis, and reporting of TIA Research and Development and Industry Engagement.
  • Mentor staff and postgraduate students to independently carry out the scientific planning, design, data analysis associated with TIA activities.
  • Lead the training of staff and HDR students using appropriate statistical programming applications.
  • Lead or participate in research activities that enable the agricultural and food sectors in Tasmania to use data to assist in making complex decisions actionable.
  • Participate in the learning and teaching of scientific planning, statistical design, data analysis, and interpretation, to the Institute’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs including the Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Master of Agriculture and Food Sciences.
  • Make a strong and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.

What we’re looking for:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Refereed publications and a track record of research funding success in a field of study cognate to the Agricultural Sciences.
  • Experience in the delivery of teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the statistical methodology essential for likely applications of data science in agriculture research.
  • Experience in the use of R
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B or C, depending on experience, and will have a total remuneration package of up to $178, 024 comprising base salary within the range of $110,992 to $152,157 plus 17% superannuation.
