About the opportunity
The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) is a research institute of the University of Tasmania (UTAS), supported through a joint venture with the Tasmanian Government. TIA delivers world-class research, industry development, and education that supports sustainable profitability and resilience across Tasmania’s agricultural industries.
The Laboratory Manager plays a pivotal role in upholding the exceptional standards required across TIA’s diverse research and teaching programs. This position is responsible for the effective management and operation of multiple TIA laboratory environments, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and aligned with institutional and legislative requirements.
What you’ll do:
Organise and manage day-to-day operations in research and teaching laboratories.
Provide oversight for hazardous substances and activities.
Coordinate practical teaching activities at Launceston campuses and relevant field area.
Undertake inductions and on-going training to staff and students in safe work practices.
Assist the Operations Manager and Business Manager with strategic planning.
What we’re looking for:
Completion of an undergraduate degree in science or equivalent combination of skills, training and experience.
Strong WHS knowledge and safe work systems management.
Significant experience in providing technical laboratory support.
Demonstrated ability to analyse and solve complex technical and non-technical problems.
Proven ability to supervise staff and students to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
