About the opportunity

The Senior Lecturer in Medical Education is a member of the academic team at the Launceston Clinical School in the Tasmanian School of Medicine within the College of Health and Medicine and supports the development of skills in clinical supervision for UTAS students on a range of healthcare placements. The role will focus on developing the capacity of supervisors to deliver placement-based teaching and assessment skills, relevant to not only medical students but also junior clinicians and registrars. The role will collaborate with other providers to deliver vertical integration of supervision skills across the pathway from medical student to specialist.

What you’ll do:

  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake high quality and scholarly teaching to clinical supervisors from a range of healthcare settings and stage of training.
  • Engage with clinicians across northern Tasmania to support capacity building with regards to skills in effective clinical teaching and supervision
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of opportunities for both formal and informal mentorship for medical students and junior doctors.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and with relevant local and national discipline and interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Seek out and engage in opportunities to continuously improve academic learning and teaching skills.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably assigned by the supervisor.

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a recognise primary medical qualification permitting registration by the Medical Board of Australia
  • Experience or interest in engaging in undergraduate or postgraduate clinical supervision and teaching
  • Currently engaged in or interested to undertake postgraduate studies in Medical Education or Clinical Education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a record of working collaboratively with a team to achieve a common goal
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with staff, students and external organisations.
  • High-level organisational skills including experience adhering to safe operating procedures.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $178,024 pro rata comprising base salary within the range of $133,981 to $152,157 pro rata plus 17% superannuation.
