The College of Health and Medicine encompasses the School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre and the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. Based at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, the Level B (or Level C) Research Fellow is expected to carry out independent and/or team research within the field in which they are appointed and to carry out activities to develop their research expertise relevant to the particular field of research.  The objective of this position is to conduct research into identifying the genetic drivers of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis using genetic and epigenetic approaches. The position will involve project management and co-ordination of sample collection; performance of genetic and epigenetic analysis, including bioinformatic analyses; and functional analyses of identified genetic variants of interest.

This appointment is for a fixed term period of 2 years with the possibility of a third year.

To be considered at Level B, you will have:

  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant field (genetics of complex disease).
  • Demonstrated publication productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience in research organisational skills and capacity to act independently, within established research guidelines, using discretion and sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with a team of researchers to conduct high-quality research.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with a range of people and organisations.
  • Experience with the preparation of ethics applications, grant reports, manuscripts and other funding applications. 

To be considered at Level C, you will have:

  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant field (genetics of complex disease).
  • Strong evidence of sustained, high quality research output over the past five years, including publication of scholarly papers in high quality peer reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing research leadership, including supervising and training research staff and students in a multi-disciplinary team environment and achieving a high level of research by higher degree completions.
  • Experience in establishing effective relationships and promoting research with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with a range of people and organisations.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop staff, and to manage project budgets.

Appointment to this role will be at Level B or Level C depending on research performance.

Appointment to this role at Academic Level B will have a total remuneration package of up to $127,368 comprising base salary within the range of $92,326 to $108,862 plus 17% superannuation.

Appointment to this role at Academic Level C will have a total remuneration package of up to $150,401 comprising base salary within the range of $112,184 to $128,548 plus 17% superannuation.
