 About the Opportunity

Responsible for the operational management of the University’s central finance research services  function, the role leads a specialist team delivering post‑award financial management, reporting, and compliance support for externally funded research grants and contracts across the University.

Applying substantial professional judgement within established policy and governance frameworks, you will ensure complex funding obligations are met, financial risks are effectively managed, and accurate, timely financial advice is provided to researchers, Schools, and the Research Office. The position also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen research finance processes, systems, and service delivery in support of the University’s research objectives. Team leadership and management of workload allocation will ensure that appropriate service standards are met. What’s Required

You will bring a relevant degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience, ideally with progress toward CPA or CA accreditation. You will have proven experience in research finance, grants administration or complex financial administration, alongside strong leadership capability in mentoring and managing staff within a high‑quality, service‑oriented environment. A strong understanding of external research funding rules, compliance requirements and financial governance is essential, supported by demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, acquittals and audit processes. Success in the role also requires excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to manage competing deadlines, solve complex problems, and work both collaboratively and independently, with strong proficiency in financial systems and core desktop applications. Familiarity with university environments and TechnologyOne Financials will be well regarded.
