About the opportunity
The Professional Experience Placement Officer plays a crucial role in coordinating and providing high-level support to ensure the successful placement of students in a variety of medical settings across the state and interstate (an internationally in few cases). The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring professional experience placements are effectively coordinated, promoted, and supported, with a focus on student compliance. The role is located at the Hobart Clinical School, attached to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The Professional Experience Placement Officer will work under the general direction of the Team Leader, Hobart Clinical School, while working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of professional experience placements that enhance student experience and learning/training. This will involve providing high level advice and guidance to staff, students, and external stakeholders in areas including administration, policy, procedures and external regulatory compliance requirements
The position works in a team environment, where there will be a strong emphasis on providing high level administrative support to all learning and teaching activities including clinical rotations compliance, student placements, and examinations. The incumbent must show initiative, attention to detail, high levels of organisation, flexibility and work well, both independently and as part of a team.
What you’ll do:
Coordinating and managing Year 3 and Year 5 General Practice Placements by building and maintaining strong relationships with placement agencies. This includes sourcing and securing placements, managing schedules, allocating students, and providing ongoing guidance and support throughout the placement lifecycle.
Overseeing student compliance requirements and ensuring accurate placement data entry, maintaining comprehensive placement histories that align with course and unit objectives in accordance with university policies.
Preparing and processing placement-related documentation, including Medicare Practice Incentive Payments (PIP) and Placement Agreements.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external health service providers to ensure the smooth coordination of Year 4 Electives, including incoming and outgoing placements across Tasmania, interstate, and internationally.
Managing the Year 5 Selectives Program, ensuring all compliance and administrative requirements are met for placements at Hobart Clinical School and international sites.
Assisting with data analysis and the preparation of documents and reports to provide feedback to students and academic staff regarding Electives, Selectives, and General Practice Placements.

Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $105,665 comprising base salary within the range of $80,869 to $90,312 plus 17% superannuation.
