The Conservatorium enables tight focus on highly specialised music curriculum while building strong, lasting connections between government, creative industry, cultural organisations and the University.
In reinstating the Conservatorium, you’ll strengthen partnerships with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and music organisations statewide, nurturing classical music traditions while fostering contemporary music production and culture.

What’s Required
The Director provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership to deliver high-quality education and research, foster a thriving and safe organisational culture, and drive impactful community engagement. You will play a key leadership role in ensuring the University’s offerings are high quality, distinct and aligned to strategic goals, regulatory obligations, and sustainability targets. You will bring to the role:
Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality strategic and operational leadership of a music-focused organisation and an understanding of the academic context of the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music.
A strong vision and practical capability to deliver high-quality, distinctive, and sustainable music education, including the ability for innovative leadership in the design and delivery of a compelling, high-quality and sustainable Bachelor of Music.
Experience in leadership anchored in a national profile in Music, including a record of successful collaboration, and facility to secure external funding.
Sound financial and resource management capabilities, including budget development, forecasting, and efficient deployment of people and assets.
Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks relevant to higher education, research, and risk management.
Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders to enhance the Academic Unit’s profile and impact.
