Your New Role
As a key leader of the University’s Research Division, the Dean of Graduate Research will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the recruitment, retention, and successful completion of higher degree research (HDR) candidates.
Through co-design, collaboration and design thinking principles, the Dean of Graduate Research will advance the strategic HDR experience to be fit-for-purpose, aligned to support the University’s research model and inspired by our University Strategic Plan 2019-2024. Committed to research integrity and continuous improvement, this position will ensure high quality operational processes, mentoring and development.
Partnering with stakeholders across the University and external research community, this role will be crucial in framing innovative and contemporary HDR programs, maintaining excellence in training and supervision and supporting outstanding HDR candidate experiences.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
Your deep understanding of the HDR journey and environment will include experience in supervising HDR candidates to completion and demonstrated passion for enhancing HDR candidate experiences, outcomes and support. Knowledge of international trends will be required and an ability to adapt best practices, legislation and policies relevant to HDR candidature. With demonstrated academic leadership and management experience, you will have an excellent record of research and success in producing high quality research publications and obtaining nationally competitive research grants.
As an innovative and collaborative leader, you will have excellent interpersonal, negotiation and decision-making skills to partner with colleagues and resolve complex HDR candidature matters. Your substantial experience in bringing together diverse groups, developing new funding initiatives and articulating vision will be key to your success in delivering strategic outcomes.
This ongoing senior management opportunity will be based in Hobart. A competitive remuneration package will be commensurate with skills and experience, including 17% superannuation and generous relocation assistance, as required.
