The Opportunity
As the Executive Director, this unique opportunity will see you join the University of Tasmania’s pioneering initiative, Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI). Making a lasting impact on Australia’s forest and forest products industries, you will oversee the establishment and operation of AFWI that will deliver world-class transformational research, delivered nationally through three Research Centres and a national open call for research program. targeted to deliver on the strategic goals of AFWI.
With $101.5 million in Federal Government funding, supplemented by contributions from UTAS and key stakeholders, this 4-6 year national program aims to revolutionize the delivery of forestry and forest products research in Australia.
Fostering collaborative, end-user-focused research across sustainable forests, fibre and bioproducts, solid engineered wood, design and construction, supply chains, and climate solutions, you will work towards the creation of an industry focused innovation ecosystem.
What’s Required
A highly successful senior leader in forestry or primary industry innovation, you will bring to the role extensive experience in facilitating research, development, and engagement across universities, public, and private sectors. In addition, you will demonstrate significant experience with:
- A proven track record in developing strategic directions and overseeing delivery of high-quality, end-user focused research.
- Effective management of strategic, financial, human resources, and governance obligations.
- Deep understanding of the Australian forestry and forest products sector including translating and commercializing research outcomes.
- Highly effective transformational leadership, team building, and communication skills, fostering positive workplace cultures and implement equity and diversity practices.
- Superior stakeholder relationship management for handling complex and sensitive issues with sound judgement and autonomy.

The total remuneration for this role is in the region of $250,000 depending on experience
