Data Warehouse Engineer

About the opportunity

As a member of the broader Data Warehouse team, the Data Warehouse Engineer has shared responsibility for the University of Tasmania’s Enterprise Data Warehouse. The role focuses on design, development, and ongoing support of the University’s data warehouse models and associated datasets and works closely with system owners and analysts.

What you’ll do:

  • Apply data modelling techniques to design and build data models/datasets (e.g. star/snowflake models to support the University analysts and data driven decision making.
  • Build and support ETL/ELT activities to ingest data from source systems or staging areas into the data warehouse models.
  • Develop and enforce quality assurance procedures to ensure information and data relationship integrity.
  • Investigate and resolve data issues in collaboration with source system owners.
  • Design and build connections between end user BI software and an enterprise data warehouse.
  • Automate data loads and cube/dataset builds.
  • Liaise with database and/or Business Intelligence software vendors.

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge or training equivalent to:
    • Tertiary level qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and extensive relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated dimensional modelling experience.
  • Demonstrated design and implementation of data load processes, within a data warehouse environment.
  • An expert level SQL skillset.
  • Understanding of contemporary information and data governance principles.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and trusting relationships with stakeholders to interpret and understand requirements and effectively communicate expert advice.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills appropriate for all levels of the university.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation.
