About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Workplace Relations Consultant or Workplace Relations Specialist to join our People and Wellbeing team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis, covering a period of parental leave. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert advice across a broad range of workplace and industrial relations matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, enterprise agreements, and governance frameworks.
You will play a key role in enterprise bargaining negotiations and the implementation of the University’s staff agreement, offering strategic advice on complex case management and contributing to professional development initiatives. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will represent the University in Fair Work Commission matters, advocate for its interests, and coach and uplift the capability of the wider People and Wellbeing team.
Working within a small, dedicated team, you will support leaders and stakeholders to manage workplace relations matters in a proactive, contemporary and people‑centred way. You will build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including business partners, Legal Services, unions and employee representatives.
What’s Required
- Technical expertise in Workplace Relations and Industrial Relations legislation with a broad knowledge base of contemporary HR practices.
- Demonstrated ability to translate employment frameworks, policies and procedures into practical applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in liaising with staff at all levels, unions and other third parties, with demonstrated experience negotiating effective outcomes, consultation and facilitation of group discussions.
- Proven ability to represent and advocate before various industrial tribunals and commissions
- Agility and strong desire to develop, lead and implement a broad range of projects as required across the University.
- High level of self-management, including the ability to work under pressure and achieve outcomes.

Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 or an HEO 10 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $162,281 comprising base salary within the range of $114,383 to $139,557 plus 17% superannuation.
