About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Technical Assistant in the Australian Maritime College (AMC).
The Technical Assistant actively contributes to the support and delivery of high quality, safe and efficient teaching and learning activities. The incumbent ensures core performance criteria of safe operations and student outcomes are achieved. The position works closely with academic personnel and a small team of specialist technical staff delivering technical support to teaching and learning programs, research, consultancy activities and fieldwork. There is also a requirement for undertaking basic repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
What you’ll do:
Support academic staff to ensure the implementation of WHS requirements and procedures during T&L activities.
Undertake routine planned maintenance activities and repairs of vessels and facilities.
Engage with and supervise contractors from various trades to ensure that work is undertaken in a safe and timely manner.
Undertake workplace health and safety checks and audits of vessels, facilities and equipment plus to ensure compliance with current industry standards.
Operate or assist in the launching/recovery and operation of AMC vessels for the purposes of maintenance, training and voyages.
What we’re looking for:
Experience as a trade assistant or similar in mechanical/technical workshops or marine industry.
Experience in minor carpentry/joinery, composite/fibreglass repair, marine electrical systems and marine/industrial coatings.
Experience with computer based Planned Management Systems software.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
Coxswain Certificate or ability to obtain.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $91,488 comprising base salary within the range of $73,814 to $78,195 plus 17% superannuation.
