About the opportunity
This part‑time Midwifery Lecturer position is responsible for supporting the education and clinical preparation of students in the Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery. The role has a strong focus on coordinating and overseeing Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE) across several health service sites, ensuring placements meet NMBA standards and ANMAC accreditation requirements.
The Academic MPE Coordinator serves as the key link between the University and health service partners—particularly the Tasmanian Health Service—to ensure students receive safe, high‑quality clinical learning opportunities. In addition to placement coordination, the role contributes to teaching, academic service, and fostering a collaborative, positive culture within the School. The position plays an important part in delivering impactful midwifery education for Tasmania.
What you’ll do:
Make an effective contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
Contribute to the delivery and coordination of high -quality MPE within the Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery.
Deliver high-quality teaching in the simulation laboratory (face-to-face intensives).
Plan and deliver preceptor/facilitator training for health services.
Support student learning and progression in practice-based contexts, in collaboration with health services.
Contribute to the compliance with NMBA and ANMAC requirements related to MPE.
Maintain effective and professional relationships with health services, clinical preceptors, facilitators and midwifery educators.
What we’re looking for:
Experience in University-level learning and teaching in Midwifery.
Knowledge of ANMAC Midwife Accreditation Standards, particularly as they relate to practice experience.
Experience contributing to the coordination or support of MPE or work-related learning.
Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with students, academic staff and health service partners.
Experience contributing to Safety in Practice processes, quality assurance and compliance activities.
Evidence of strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
Extensive clinical experience as, or highly relevant to, a midwife.
Qualifications and Licences
Registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
A postgraduate qualification in midwifery or a relevant health field is desirable.
Current Working with Vulnerable People registration (or to be obtained).
Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence or manual vehicle licence.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 pro-rata comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 pro-rata plus 17% superannuation.
