About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Research Nurse at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies), University of Tasmania.

Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes. Menzies exists to improve human health and wellbeing by performing excellent basic, clinical and population health research that focuses on the major diseases affecting the Tasmanian community. Our research is aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes for the community by translating knowledge into policy and practice.

As part of the Cardiovascular Health research theme, the Research Nurse will oversee the screening and the follow-up of currently randomised participants in various trials.

What you’ll do:

  • Consult with and provide advice to the Study Coordinator and Chief Investigators regarding patient related activities to inform study design and progress. 
  • Coordinate the recruitment of study participants from the community and obtain informed consent from participants.
  • Collaborate with the Study Coordinator, Study Investigators and key stakeholders to implement new and existing study protocols.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for participants and their families/significant others that meet learning needs and facilitate informed decision making.
  • Monitor the progress of research activities, develop and maintain accurate records of research activities on RedCAP.
  • Understand and adhere to relevant legislation as well as internal and external policies and procedures and practice in accordance with the NMBA1 codes and guidelines for registered nurses and midwives.

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree qualification in nursing, with experience in caring for patients who have cardiovascular health conditions.
  • Competent in cardiovascular assessment and demonstrates a high ability to evaluate a patient’s health status.
  • Independent decision making and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Excellent writing skills, with experience preparing reports and submissions for scientific and management purposes.
  • Demonstrated initiative in the management of complex, medium to large-sized research projects with significant human, financial and/or equipment needs.
  • Experience in conducting successful negotiations with a broad variety of organisations and individuals (e.g. health professionals, researchers).
  • Practical experience with a range of computer software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,878 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
