About the opportunity
The Technical Assistant supports innovative dairy research at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture’s (TIA) Livestock Production Centre. The position will be based at the Tasmanian Dairy Research Facility (TDRF) in Elliott, northwest Tasmania and will work closely with the Senior Technical Officer – Feedbase to help deliver high-impact research projects that support Tasmania’s dairy industry.
This position will contribute to the planning, coordination, and implementation of field and farm-based research, helping to generate meaningful outcomes for producers and the broader agricultural sector. The position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment, applying practical skills to cutting-edge Feedbase research and development.
What you’ll do:
Assist with sampling and recording of experimental work and preparation of samples for laboratory analysis and data entry.
Assist with the maintenance and preparation of research and field equipment.
Ensure safe work procedures are adhered to and assist casual staff and students where required in correct and safe use of research and field equipment, and in correctly following research project protocols and procedures.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What we’re looking for:
Ability to learn and perform milk sampling and animal health activities.
Ability to competently undertake the practical activities associated with the establishment and maintenance of, as well as collection and collation of data from, field and animal experiments, with particular emphasis on attention to detail.
Demonstrated organisational skills and a capacity to act independently within established guidelines, resolving arising issues using sound judgement and initiative.
Demonstrated capacity of participating effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 3 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $81,622 comprising base salary within the range of $62,972 to $69,762 plus 17% superannuation.
