About the Opportunity

You will play a fundamental role within the People and Wellbeing Division, leading the development and execution of our workplace relations strategy. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, you will provide strategic guidance on all workplace relations matters and collaborate closely with the Business Partner Team and the University Executive Team.

Fostering a people-centered environment, leveraging your extensive knowledge and experience in workplace relations, labour law, and employment policies will be critical in achieving successful outcomes. Working closely with the Legal team, union bodies, and key internal and external stakeholders, you will drive strategic workplace relations initiatives and resolve complex workplace issues.

You will bring to the role exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, inspiring positive change and driving the University’s mission forward. Your expert advice and collaborative approach will be instrumental in creating a thriving, inclusive workplace that supports our collective goals and aspirations. In addition, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in workplace relations, labour law, and employment policies within a large, diverse, and complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective workplace relations strategies and policies, balancing compliance with a focus on employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex workplace relations issues and disputes.
  • Experience in building and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders, including union bodies and industry associations, to facilitate collaboration and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong Project Management competence and discipline
  • In-depth understanding of the Australian Higher Education sector and associated industrial relations landscape, including familiarity with the AHEIA network and relevant regulations.
