About the opportunity

The Senior Data Analyst (Integrity & Reporting) makes an essential contribution in fostering a strong culture of research excellence at the University of Tasmania, by ensuring external research submissions are prepared to the highest standards, and by supporting the research integrity portfolio. 

The Senior Data Analyst (Integrity & Reporting) is responsible for leading the University’s external research reporting obligations, together with supporting the facilitation, analysis and reporting of research integrity complaints and concerns. The successful candidate requires strong analytical skills to be able to support data manipulation and benchmarking, external reporting submissions, and research integrity assessments and reporting.

The position requires a high degree of collaboration across multiple Academic Units and Divisions of the University and with a range of staff including academics, professional staff and senior managers. The Senior Data Analyst (Integrity & Reporting) operates with exemplary accuracy, integrity and a drive for continual improvement.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the development and preparation of the University’s external research reporting requirements, including the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) submission and Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Higher Education Research and Development Survey, ensuring the collection, verification and quality assurance of research data, together with other ad hoc reporting as required.
  • Provide support, including analytical support, for the assessment and resolution of complaints and concerns relating to the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018 (the Code), as articulated in the University’s Research Integrity Complaints Procedure.
  • Drive the ongoing development of quality research data analysis and reporting, to inform University research strategy. This will involve the identification of emerging data needs, together with specifying new reports and data visualisations.
  • Plan and organise training and support tools, and facilitate discussions with stakeholders, to ensure awareness of the University’s research reporting capabilities and responsible research practices.
  • Provide expert advice to researchers, Higher Degree by Research candidates, Research Integrity Advisors, senior management and research administrators regarding the Code and external reporting guidelines and requirements.

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a degree level qualification in a relevant area with extensive experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Exceptional written, visual and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex matters in a logical manner together with the ability to produce clear and accurate reports based on analysis.
  • The ability to summarise and present complex data or issues without bias or preconceived notions, and to ensure that all relevant information and considerations are evaluated.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a high degree of autonomy within broad guidelines, including setting goals, developing priorities, meeting deadlines and identifying process improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, collaborate, consult and negotiate with staff at all levels, including senior management.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and apply the University’s policies and procedures, the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018 and research reporting specifications (e.g., Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) Specifications).

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $152,033 comprising base salary within the range of $114,282 to $129,943 plus 17% superannuation.
