About the opportunity

Are you passionate about advancing research and making a real impact in people’s lives? The Wicking Dementia Centre is a global leader in research and education programs, and we are seeking a dynamic Clinical Research Manager to join our innovative team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape clinical research projects and to drive strategy and innovation in neurodegenerative disease research.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced leader to drive the clinical trials program at the Wicking Dementia Centre, and to oversee the ISLAND Clinic, our flagship multidisciplinary diagnostic research clinic supporting Tasmanians with cognitive impairment.

This is a leadership role and will provide you with an opportunity to inform the Wicking Centre’s research strategy by building and strengthening relationships across industry, government, funding bodies and other research institutions both nationally and internationally. The Centre offers a collaborative, supportive environment where your expertise will drive meaningful change. It is more than a management position; it represents your opportunity to positively impact outcomes for people and families affected by dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and deliver the vision, strategy and operations of clinical research relating to neurological conditions, in collaboration with the Wicking Executive Team and senior academic staff.

  • Oversee all aspects of clinical trials and other sponsored research activities, including ethics, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, reporting and stakeholder communications.
  • Establish, strengthen and manage strategic relationships across a wide range of stakeholder groups including patients, clinical trial participants, clinical and research staff, contract research organisations, pharmaceutical industry members, government departments and funding bodies to develop, implement and achieve strategy.
  • Identify funding opportunities, and take responsibility for the development of grant applications, project plans and deliverables in collaboration with senior academics.
  • Take responsibility for budget development, financial management and reporting for activities relating to dementia clinical research, ensuring accountability and alignment with strategic priorities.

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field with demonstrated leadership and management experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team of professional staff, ideally within a research or clinical environment, including performance oversight, team development, and operational planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical trial governance, including ethics, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders to achieve strategic and operational objectives in a medical research, health and/or higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including the ability to deliver milestones on time and manage budgets and resources aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated high level strategic skills, with proven ability to research, analyse, plan and prioritise complex and competing demands, and contribute to strategy development.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with experience influencing and negotiating successful outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups.
