The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to join our Student Services portfolio as the Associate Director, Student Services - a newly created position designed to elevate the student experience across the University. This role is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for driving a seamless and integrated journey for students from enquiry through to graduation.

Working collaboratively across Divisions and Academic Units, the role will lead both strategic and operational initiatives that align with the University’s mission and respond to the evolving needs of future and current students. The role will foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and student-centric decision-making to deliver transformative educational outcomes for and from Tasmania. Lead a high-performing team which delivers cross-functional support for all areas of the portfolio, providing executive support, analytics, reporting and system support to enhance service delivery performance, governance and project prioritisation. The role will act as a senior delegate for Student Services, supporting the Executive Director and functional Managers to ensure integrated and seamless service delivery.

What’s Required

  • Demonstrated high level leadership experience in student experience, across a variety of University contexts, with proven success in leading and implementing transformational change initiatives, preferably within University settings, with the capability to lead complex programs of work necessary to achieve strategic targets.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement and relationship management with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at various levels of seniority while negotiating a range of conflicting demands and priorities in a complex internal and external environment.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the national and international higher education sector and regulatory environment, including legislative and compliance requirements which govern University systems and processes, with a demonstrated ability to translate into institutional procedures and processes.
  • A proven ability to design new solutions, service models and ways of working within compliance ‘guard rails’ to respond to emerging trends and student needs as a result of a changing higher education landscape (e.g. Universities Accord). 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to utilise qualitative and quantitative data driven insights, together with appreciation of University systems and their capabilities, to inform decision making and drive continuous improvement in processes, service model redesign and solve complex problems/issues to drive positive organisational culture.
  • Proven operational, project and change management experience, with ability to manage and prioritise effectively in a demanding and dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with a recent record of successful collaborative practice and capacity to work constructively with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders.
