About the opportunity

The Administration Officer - Teaching supports the teaching program in the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), which includes short courses, undergraduate, honours and higher degree by research (HDR) programs in agriculture, agricultural science and agribusiness management.

The Administration Officer - Teaching is responsible for undertaking a range of activities which contribute to the day-to-day teaching operations of the Institute. This role will actively contribute to the effective and efficient administrative support to staff and students. This position is based at TIA’s Newnham campus and will support TIA’s learning and teaching team across the state, including Cradle Coast, Newnham, Sandy Bay and Inveresk campuses.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as a first point of contact for teaching related queries and triage enquiries as appropriate to support and enable a positive undergraduate and post-graduate environment in TIA.
  • Coordinate and support student related events, including orientation week, awards events, and other course related student events.
  • Coordinate bookings for teaching related travel between campuses, such as field trips and other activities.
  • Collate student performance and record marks for thesis/professional pathway eligibility into relevant systems as supplied by the course coordinator.
  • In conjunction with the Institute Coordinator, implement and monitor systems to effectively budget, monitor and report on casual staff operational teaching activity and other costs at unit level.
  • Support the TIA Learning and Teaching Committee and other learning and teaching meetings through collation of documents and taking and dissemination of minutes.
  • Provide customised and timely support to the Associate Head Learning and Teaching, the North and South Academic Leads, and degree coordinators, as appropriate.
  • Administer data entry and support for TIA’s UOD and Workload Model systems.

What we’re looking for:

  •  Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders through the use of excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including industry, professional bodies and other members of the public.
  • A strong commitment to continually improving student/client experience through the provision of exceptional customer service.
  • Highly developed administration and organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to exercise judgement on work methods and task sequence to prioritise work, meet multiple deadlines and manage a diverse range of tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues, contributing to team planning and shared tasks with confidence.
  • The ability to exercise diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proven ability to identify, analyse and resolve administrative issues.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy, including word processing, data processing, and Microsoft Office 365 tools, with the capacity to acquire an understanding of new technologies as required.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $105,665 comprising base salary within the range of $80,869 to $90,312 plus 17% superannuation.
