About the opportunity
This opportunity is for a period of 2 months, beginning early September 2025 and concluding early November 2025. Training and induction will be provided by the incumbent. The successful applicant will be based at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), a specialist institute of the University of Tasmania. The position’s fraction is by negotiation in the range 0.8 – 1.0 FTE.
The Project Officer will carry out a full range of administrative and project coordination tasks supporting the research, operations and communications activities of ACEAS, the Australian Centre of Excellence in Antarctic Science. Strong administrative, coordination and communication skills are essential in the role to ensure effective working arrangements and relationships are established and maintained across the operational areas of the Centre and with partner organisations.
What you’ll do:
Provide high-level administrative advice and assistance to the Director, Business Manager and Centre research staff and affiliated graduate students.
Play a leading role in the coordination of the Centre’s annual research forum, including onsite support.
Provide administrative advice and services to Centre committees and working groups.
Prepare detailed financial reports and sub-project budgets and undertake day-to-day financial monitoring against the major research centre budget.
Prepare correspondence, presentations, submissions, and other Centre documents as required.
What we’re looking for:
Experience in a complex administrative field, including high-level competence in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
Demonstrated high-level project administration and coordination skills, with accuracy and a high level of attention to detail.
Demonstrated high-level communication skills including highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated sound judgement.
Demonstrated ability to prioritise work to meet tight and/or conflicting deadlines and to work effectively and efficiently under pressure.
Demonstrated experience in working effectively in an environment where confidentiality, impartiality and discretion are essential.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
