About the opportunity

Working in the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies) at the University of Tasmania, the Senior Project Manager will work on projects related to Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions, including a large MRFF funded project “Implementing ParkinsonNet to improve equitable access to high quality care for people with Parkinson’s disease in rural and remote Australia”. Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes. Menzies exists to improve human health and wellbeing by performing excellent basic, clinical and population health research that focuses on the major diseases affecting the Tasmanian community. Our research is aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes for the community by translating knowledge into policy and practice. Research at Menzies is structured around research themes, flagships and research platforms.

As part of the Brain Health Theme, the incumbent will manage projects that aim to improve outcomes for people with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.  This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research that makes difference to people with chronic neurological conditions. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team and partners, the role requires strong project management, communication and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of the health system and the role of allied health is desirable.

What you’ll do:

• Collaborate with investigators, partners, people with lived experience, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful coordination and timely completion of the ParkinsonNet project.
• Prepare and coordinate research-related administration, including governance and ethics approvals, timelines, risk registry’s, communication strategy, and data collection and management protocols.
• Coordinate project team, investigator, steering and consumer group meetings and provide high level support and advice.
• Assist with the coordination and overseeing of data collection, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, audits and questionnaires.
• Prepare and submit reports and be the main point of contact for all internal and external bodies (i.e. investigator meetings, funder, ethics) as required.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners, particularly Fight Parkinson’s, Parkinson’s Tasmania, the Tasmanian Health Service, Western Alliance and National Allied Health Professional organisations.
• Comply with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and UTAS Framework for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

What we’re looking for:

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree (preferably health-related) with at least 4 years relevant experience, extensive experience and management expertise.
• An excellent record in managing large research projects (or similar) from planning phase to completion, where there are significant human and financial needs.
• Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to be self-directed, manage competing priorities and to use initiative, innovation and problem-solving skills for day-to-day management of the study and achievement of milestones and deadlines.
• Proven experience in conducting research, including ethics approval processes, recruitment, data management and quality control.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people, including a record of maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with disciplines, profession, industry, and wider community.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $ 130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $ 101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation.
