About the Opportunity
The General Manager Sciences and Engineering enables the delivery of professional support services to and with eight academic units, ensuring they are well-integrated, effective, connected to divisional services, and aligned with strategic and operational priorities. This role combines financial planning, operational facilitation and business development, supporting the Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) and Heads of Academic Units to drive financial sustainability and resource optimisation. The General Manager acts as a vital liaison between the portfolio and central university functions, providing assurance that professional support services remain responsive, streamlined, and fit-for-purpose.
Success in this role requires a collaborative and solutions-focused leader with expertise in financial and operational management, including safety requirements, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning. The General Manager must navigate complexity, lead team(s) of professionals, and foster strong partnerships across the University that enable long-term success and impact in Tasmania and beyond.
What’s Required
A degree and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience in business operations, financial management, or professional service delivery within a complex organisation.
Proven experience in senior leadership roles within higher education, business, or government sectors.
Expertise in financial planning, business development, and operational management.
Strong knowledge of financial management, risk assessment, and governance.
Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, ensuring alignment between academic and professional functions.
