About the Portfolio

The Academic Division has a critical role in enabling and supporting learning and teaching success. The purpose of the Academic System will be to achieve transformative educational outcomes for students and communities​, ensure that all courses are mission-aligned, design and performance optimized. Seven critical elements will serve specific purposes in the System and include Courses, Capacity, Capability, Time, Governance, Management, and Technology and processes. The system will deliver mission aligned educational content, allowing us to accelerate the transition we need to make in Tasmania.

About the Opportunity

The Director of Performance Optimisation is a newly established leadership role responsible for driving a data-informed approach to academic excellence. This role will lead the University’s efforts to proactively identify, diagnose, and address academic and operational  performance challenges, ensuring that academic units operate within agreed performance guardrails.

You will establish a sophisticated analytics function, providing real-time insights into performance, course viability, and student success. With proactive performance oversight, you'll predict and address deviations and lead a team to deliver impactful interventions. Developing tools and dashboards for effective management and driving continuous improvement in our course portfolio will foster a culture of excellence and turn data into actionable insights for strategic planning.

What’s Required

To be successful in this role, you will need to develop and maintain a Performance Optimisation System that ensures high-quality courses and units. Establishing a sophisticated analytics function is crucial, providing real-time insights into performance, course viability, and student success. You must implement proactive performance oversight mechanisms to predict and address deviations early. Leading a team to deliver high-impact interventions and developing tools and dashboards for effective management are essential. Driving continuous improvement in the course portfolio, fostering a culture of excellence, and turning data into actionable insights are key. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and expertise in data analytics within a complex academic environment are vital for success.
