Sustainability Placements Coordinator
Responsible for the coordination and delivery of scalable, interdisciplinary, and professional experience placements (PEP).
Engage with the broader Sustainability Team to develop new work integrated learning (WIL)
Full time, fixed term position until November 2026 based in Hobart
About the opportunity
Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, Experience and Engagement, the Sustainability Placement Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of scalable interdisciplinary, sustainability-based Professional Experience Placements (PEP) for undergraduate and postgraduate students from a variety of degrees. The role will also engage with the broader Sustainability Team to develop new work integrated learning (WIL) and employability opportunities for students aligned with the University’s strategic objectives.
As a cross-institution opportunity the PEP unit is housed in Sustainability and builds on the University’s experience with the internationally award-winning Sustainability Integration Program for Students (SIPS). PEP builds on SIPS through developing external curricular placements with university partners across a wide range of organisations. The PEP-Sustainability Unit is an elective unit that seeks to complement other current well-established PEP offerings. The role will achieve outcomes through developing and cultivating positive relationships with employers, community groups, and other external stakeholders.
What you’ll do:
Coordinate the WIL placement of undergraduate and postgraduate students with existing and new Professional Experience Placement (PEP) providers including conducting Workplace Health and Safety Assessments of placement organisations, maintaining records of placement partner engagements in conjunction with central systems and approaches, and developing Placement Agreements in accordance with University PEP procedures.
Support planning for and delivery of student facing workshops for Sustainability Placement students that align with key WIL outcomes of enhancing employability and graduate success.
Contribute to positive industry and stakeholder relationships and foster new relationships for the purposes of Sustainability Placements and other WIL initiatives including facilitating introductions for teaching and research staff initiatives.
Act as the main point of contact for enquiries from course and major coordinators, other academic, research and professional staff, Student Advisers, and students regarding Sustainability Placement unit(s).
Actively raise awareness of Sustainability WIL opportunities and programs with students, staff and external stakeholders. Contribute to the development of web and print-based publications and other communications for promoting WIL and participate in UTAS marketing and stakeholder engagement events to promote WIL programs.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What we’re looking for:
A degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education training.
Extensive administration experience in the field of higher education academic administration especially regarding Professional Experience Placement, including the implementation of PEP policy and procedure at a tertiary institution including legal, risk-management, health and safety compliance.
High level organisational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritise tasks in a complex and ever-changing work environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to contribute to business cases and briefing materials as required.
Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with members of the public, professional bodies, and stakeholders at all levels to develop and maintain effective relationships and partnerships.
High level skills in a range of computer software applications including word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, email and the internet as a resource and the ability to acquire skills in relevant software applications.
Extensive knowledge in University systems, including but not limited to Akari, MyLo, and MyAcademic.
A demonstrated understanding of holistic sustainability and the University’s commitment to and delivery of sustainability outcomes both within the institution and more broadly in our communities.
