About the opportunity
The Technical Officer will provide technical related support to undergraduate practical teaching (including Horticulture, Microbiology, Animal Science, Soil Science and Agronomy) under supervision from the Laboratory Manager. The incumbent will provide technical support to laboratory and field-based practicals and support the day-to-day operations of the Institute, particularly those pertaining to laboratory maintenance and operation. The incumbent will broadly promote a WHS-compliant, continuous improvement culture and by supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
What you’ll do:
Contribute to the undergraduate teaching program to assist with the delivery of practical teaching under direction
Order equipment, consumables, and reagents to support the undergraduate teaching program as directed.
Assist with the development and update of risk assessments and safe work procedures (SWPs) for equipment/tasks.
Assist with scheduled maintenance programs such as cool rooms and –80C freezers.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What we’re looking for:
Laboratory skills and previous experience in the production of Agricultural Science practical classes.
Ability to follow direction and work with supervision in a laboratory environment.
Proven organizational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines, ability to work independently with limited supervision at times whilst participating effectively in a team environment.
Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with staff and students from diverse cultures and backgrounds to achieve the required outcomes.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $88,479 comprising base salary within the range of $71,387 to $75,623 pro rata plus 17% superannuation.
