Legal Assistant

  • Responsible for managing incoming requests and queries, as well as assisting with work allocation and management.
  • Responsible for providing effective and efficient support to the Legal and Audit team.
  • Full time, fixed term position until January 2026 based in Hobart.

About the opportunity

The Legal and Audit team are responsible for providing support and advice to the University in relation to decision making, governance, legal matters, risk management, internal audit and compliance.

In conjunction with the Business Manager, this role is responsible for providing effective and efficient support to the Legal and Audit team, including the provision of high-level administrative assistance, systems and project support. The Legal Assistant will support the Legal and Audit team by managing and coordinating day-to-day operational activities.

This position will be the first line of contact in the Legal and Audit team. The role is responsible for managing incoming requests and queries, assisting with work allocation and management, providing assistance by preparing first draft of documents, letters and briefing notes, assisting with updating University contract templates on the Contract Management platform, along with a range of ad hoc secretarial duties.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and workflow incoming requests and queries, including matters from the courts and regulatory bodies, right to information requests (RTIs) and requests for access to information.
  • Assist in the preparation and finalisation of various documentation (letters, memos, committee papers) and ensure accurate storage in central repository systems.
  • Coordinate and maintain internal systems, registers, and databases relevant to team processes, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Provide high level admin support to the Legal and Audit team, including reporting to and liaison with internal and external stakeholders and coordination of actions within specified timeframes.
  • Undertake a variety of tasks to support the operations of Legal and Audit Services.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in office management or administration, preferably within a legal or regulatory environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite with the ability to pick up other systems quickly.
  • Strong organisation skills, including time management.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $102,190 comprising base salary within the range of $78,210 to $87,342 plus 17% superannuation.
