About the opportunity
The Accountant position is an integral part of the Financial Reporting Team, working alongside the Senior Lead and Financial Accountant to provide a high quality financial accounting service that ensures the integrity of the general ledger and accurate financial reporting. The position also provides specialist financial expertise to the Payroll and Benefits function by advising on financial controls within payroll to ensure that payroll obligations are met and payroll liabilities correctly recorded.
What you’ll do:
Financial Accounting
Assist the Senior Lead Financial Reporting and Financial Accountant with the month end close-down process, ensuring that all team tasks have been completed.
Processing key accounting adjustments as part of month-end close-down process to ensure and deliver accurate accounting of the University’s financial position and performance.
Co-ordinate and where required prepare assigned general ledger financial reconciliations ensuring they are completed, reviewed, and issues resolved in a timely manner.
External Financial Reporting
Assist with the preparation and delivery of the University and Consolidated Annual Financial statements and the Annual Financial Statements of its Subsidiaries and liaise with internal and external auditors.
Participate in the external financial audit ensuring statutory deadlines are met and appropriate outcomes achieved.
Completion of the Annual Financial Record (AFR) and submission to the Department of Education, Skills & Employment, and the submission of the annual return to the ACNC for the University.
Prepare Australian Bureau of Statistics returns and other regular financial data requests such as HERDC under the broad direction of the Senior Lead – Financial Reporting.
Prepare ad hoc external financial reports as required, according to prescribed guidelines.
Payroll and Benefits
Responsible as the subject matter expert, to provide effective support and resolution of complex payroll accounting matters, whilst enabling pro-active process improvement opportunities to the tasks under their remit.
Prepare, reconcile, and lodge payroll tax returns in accordance with state-based requirements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
Reconciling all payroll general ledger accounts and ensuring reconciling items are cleared on a timely basis.
What we’re looking for:
Completion of graduate degree in Accounting and/or other related financial discipline.
Membership or progress towards membership of a recognised accounting body.
Sound financial, analytical, and commercial skills, including problem solving and decision-making abilities.
Demonstrated ability to utilise Finance systems and applications in order to deliver analysis and report on information. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team, responding promptly, supporting and assisting the team when required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines and be accountable for own work.
Demonstrated commitment toward customer focused approach to service delivery by ensuring an appropriate medium of communication (phone, email, meeting).
Familiarity with Technology One Financials system or similar financial system used in a large, complex organisation.
Demonstrated knowledge of the University sector and current issues and trends confronting universities is advantageous.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $113,029 comprising base salary within the range of $89,091 to $96,606 plus 17% superannuation.
