About the opportunity
The Technical Assistant supports the School of Engineering by enabling hands-on learning and assisting research innovation. This role provides technical guidance to students, researchers, and academic staff in the use of equipment, experimental and demonstration setups, and engineering principles. The Technical Assistant also plays a key role in research projects by preparing technical setups, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining a safe and efficient workshop and laboratory environment.
What you’ll do:
Preparation of materials and equipment for workshop-based learning.
Support student projects using digital fabrication tools.
Prepare and reset workshop spaces for timetabled practical activities.
Ensure hazardous substances are appropriately handled, labelled, stored and wasted.
Proactively improve equipment and safety training and supervise higher risk activities as needed.
What we’re looking for:
Completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience, or completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Strong experience with handheld, benchtop and large workshop machinery.
Some experience with 3d Printing and laser cutting digital fabrication.
Demonstrated ability to train others in workshop or laboratory environments.
Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices in workshop environments and experience in promoting of safe and orderly workplaces.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $88,479 comprising base salary within the range of $71,387 to $75,623 plus 17% superannuation.
