Manager Digital Research Infrastructure and Cyber Security

About the Opportunity 

This critical role will see you oversees the infrastructure and service delivery of research-enabling platforms, including high-performance computing, research data storage, and cloud computing. Reporting to the Director Data and Digital Research, this role aligns Digital Research capabilities with the University's strategic direction. Key responsibilities include leading the Digital Research team, collaborating with researchers and stakeholders, enhancing cyber security maturity, overseeing major projects, and managing security compliance. Supporting research excellence will be achieved by providing essential infrastructure and services, contributing to the University's mission of enhancing Tasmania's intellectual, economic, social, and cultural future. The role involves building local capability, working with IT areas and external partners, and continuously improving security and service delivery. Key outcomes include driving innovation, building networks, monitoring budgets, developing procedures, collaborating with stakeholders, representing Digital Research on committees, and maintaining effective communication with governance groups and stakeholders. This comprehensive role ensures the University's research infrastructure remains robust, secure, and aligned with strategic goals. 

What’s Required  

  • Demonstrated experience leading a team and engaging with senior stakeholders 

  • A strong understanding of Linux environments  

  • Understanding of, and experience with, the University research landscape and the National Nectar Research Cloud 

  • Technical expertise in system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, and application security 

  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills and the ability to apply these skills independently and as part of a team 

  • Excellent organisational and documentation skills including the ability to develop and maintain clear protocols and guidelines 

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, lead and collaborate with a diverse group of people with a range of deep technical expertise, and to maintain both wellbeing and psychological safety within such teams. 

Qualifications and Licences 

  • Tertiary qualifications in ICT or ICT security industry certifications and extensive relevant experience in ICT security or a relevant field or an equivalent combination of both relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Occasional intrastate travel to our Tasmanian campuses and interstate travel for conferences and meetings may be required. 

  • Occasional out of hours and weekend work may be required.
