About the opportunity
The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is looking for an Associate Lecturer in Seafaring to join their team in this newly developed ongoing role. This role involves teaching and academic administration across deck, engineering, and safety subjects, including theory lessons, tutorials, practical training (with simulation and live vessels), and assessment tasks. Based in Launceston, the position also requires training delivery at Beauty Point and Bell Bay campuses, with field trips to industry settings, interstate, and occasional international travel. This opportunity allows you to inspire and train current and future seafarers through high-quality, industry-relevant activities.
What you’ll do:
Contribute to the University’s strategic and operational objectives.
Create and moderate training and assessment materials for both in-person and online formats.
Conduct and manage various educational activities, including lectures, tutorials, practicals, workshops and excursions, ensuring a positive student experience.
Participate in research and scholarship at the AMC’s Centre for Seafaring and Maritime Operations.
Foster productive relationships with the University and with external stakeholders both locally and nationally.
What we’re looking for:
Ability to design and deliver training using various methods and assess student performance.
Strong interpersonal skills and high-level written and oral communication abilities.
Extensive near coastal sea service in the Australian maritime sector.
Coxswain grade 1 near coastal certificate of competency (CoC) or a higher combination of deck and engineering CoCs, and relevant sea service.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or ability to obtain within six months) and experience in vocational education and training.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $121,737 (pro-rata) comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation (pro-rata).
