About the opportunity
The Campus Accommodation team is looking for a strong leader with a warm and approachable nature to join their team as the new Dean of Students- Hytten Hall.
The Dean is responsible for the effective day to day management and operation of the student community at Hytten Hall including the security, safety, emergency and pastoral management of the student community.
As a member of the broader Campus Accommodation leadership team, you will work collaboratively with staff and students to foster a vibrant and engaged student body that consistently displays a culture of inclusion and respect, leadership, and involvement.
You will be responsible for both overseeing the Hall Calendar of events and activities and ensuring that it is predominantly student-led, for the smooth running of student life and its associated operations.
As such, this role will require an out-of-hours commitment to lead activities and functions that will occur in the evenings and on weekends. You will also share on-call duties outside of business hours with other Deans of Students for all colleges located in Hobart/Sandy Bay.
The Dean of Students has the option to live on-site in the nominated apartment within Hytten Hall, provided by the University.
What you’ll do:
Foster an inclusive, secure and supportive culture, knowing all students and maintaining a high profile and active presence as the leader of the Hytten Hall community.
Effective management of day-to-day behaviour, student grievances, risks and emergencies within the community including pro-active and consistent follow-up of any incidents and issues as they arise in accordance with University policies and procedures.
Lead the implementation of health promotion and prevention interventions that address common wellbeing issues and build resilience in the student community.
In close collaboration with the Students’ Club, develop and deliver key community building events and projects, such as O-Week, initiative to support academic success and develop a program of student involvement in wider community activities, especially in community volunteering.
Own and effectively manage any allocated budgets for the Hall including the delivery of financial and performance targets.
What we’re looking for:
Demonstrated experience and genuine commitment to leading, guiding, supporting and developing emerging adults and mature students in a residential college, tertiary education or school community setting.
A warm approachable manner, with an understanding of, and empathy with, diverse students and ensuring their wellbeing.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, negotiate, advocate and resolve conflicts.
Excellent judgment and diplomacy, including the ability to take a firm line tempered by compassion and fairness.
Proven administrative and organisational efficiency and effectiveness, including the ability to plan, work to deadlines, and manage workload with minimal direct support or supervision.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,034 comprising base salary within the range of $110,524 to $125,670 plus 17% superannuation.
