 About the opportunity

The University’s Campus Accommodation is a network of historic and distinctive residential colleges that support a diverse cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate students from regional Tasmania, mainland Australia and overseas who are enrolled at the University in Hobart, Sandy Bay, Launceston or Burnie.

The role of the Residential Communities Officer (RCO) is a critical, student facing role, requiring high levels of face-to-face and supportive engagement with student residents. Through the provision of a high-quality welcome and transition experience; active engagement with students as partners; active inquiry into student health and wellbeing; support for academic progress and responding empathetically and efficiently to student needs and concerns, the role of the RCO will greatly contribute to a positive collegiate experience with positive health and wellbeing and academic outcomes. 

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate appropriately to student resident questions,- concerns and other issues
  • Conduct Regular Check-in meetings with residents within UTAS Residential Colleges
  • Use sound judgment and effectively assess risk in relation to incidents and behaviors
  • Engage with student bodies and broader student-led groups, to support the development and delivery of engagement programs
  • Respond appropriately to student incidents of a critical nature­

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree level qualification and experience in a human services or education related organization
  • Excellent cultural competency and experience working with culturally diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to take a people-centered and safety-first response
  • Competent computing skills, with experience in the use of Word, Excel, and information management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong people-centered communication skills

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $113,029 pro-rata comprising base salary within the range of $89,091 to $96,606 plus 17% superannuation.
