Applications are sought for membership to the University of Tasmania’s Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
A HREC Lawyer member is defined in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023) as a Category E member – a qualified lawyer, who may or may not be currently practicing and, where possible, is not engaged to advise the institution on research-related or any other matters.
The incumbent/s will oversee the implementation of national guidelines, Tasmanian legislature, UTAS policies, procedures, guidelines, and to support an embedded culture of ethical conduct and research excellence.
This is a significant role within our institution, contributing to the oversight and management of ethical considerations in research projects.

This position carries a workload of 0.05 FTE, and it presents a valuable opportunity for someone to make a meaningful impact. Members are required to attend 1-2 meetings per month of approximately 2 hours duration, plus allocate some time for preparation (reading and reviewing applications).
Meetings are held via Zoom.
