Lecturer – Public Health Program 

  • Deliver innovative teaching and contribute to impactful research
  • Supporting student success across our Public Health Programs
  • Full or part time, ongoing position based in Hobart (workload allocations will be determined by the selection panel based on the capabilities demonstrated by the successful candidate. At full time, the role may include a research fraction if the candidate demonstrates capacity to secure research funding in a strategically aligned area and meet the research expectations commensurate with Level B as outlined in the Academic Capability Framework).

About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in Public Health, in the Tasmanian School of Medicine which is part of the College of Health and Medicine at our Medical Science Precinct in Hobart. The position in the Public Health Program provides an opportunity to progress an academic career aligned with a new strategic direction at the University of Tasmania.

What you’ll do:

  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake contemporary scholarly public health teaching in postgraduate and/or undergraduate programs including through online and face to face learning modalities.
  • Coordinate units, develop distinctive strategically aligned course and unit content, and provide assessment support.
  • Where applicable, undertake high-quality research which is aligned with the College’s strategic plan.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable transformative professional stakeholder partnerships and collaborate across the broader College.­

What we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a PhD in public health or epidemiology, or a record of achievement as a leading public health practitioner with extensive experience at state/national level.
  • Established capabilities in higher education learning and teaching with substantial experience in unit coordination, blended/hybrid, online and face to face delivery modes, promotion of academic integrity, and an adaptive student-centred learning and teaching philosophy; completion of a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, or similar qualification would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching epidemiology in a higher education setting, and the ability to maximise learning opportunities for students.
  • Where applicable, commitment to impactful research that makes a worthwhile contribution to the College’s strategic priorities, demonstrated by a record of quality publications, presentations at conferences, translating evidence to practice, policy, and/or curriculum, and securing external funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work across disciplines within the College to ensure both strategic alignment and operational efficiency of course and unit content.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $150,759 comprising base salary within the range of $110,992 to $128,854 plus 17% superannuation.
