Associate Professor Post Graduate Psychology

The School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Tasmania is growing the mental health work force for Tasmania. The School has embarked on exciting changes to our program, aimed at enhancing training for generalist and clinical psychologists, accessible across the state. We are also working towards introducing the Masters of Psychology (Educational and Developmental). We are searching for an experienced academic Psychologist with clinical and/or educational and developmental endorsement, who will join this journey and help us provide much needed support for the growing demand on the Tasmanian mental health work force.

The Opportunity

The Associate Professor Post Graduate Psychology, is a leadership position in the School of Psychological Sciences, which is part of the College of Health and Medicine. This balanced teaching and research position will make a significant contribution to leadership in the School.  As the successful candidate, you will have a significant role in the development and implementation of our new curricula in the postgraduate program which aligns with both the 2019 Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) standards and the University of Tasmania postgraduate course structures. You will be expected to contribute to curriculum development, teaching and clinical supervision in a range of Clinical and/or Educational and Developmental topics at postgraduate level, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), professional ethics, psychological assessment, and psychopathology. The appointee will be expected to contribute to face-to-face, blended and online delivery of teaching.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide academic leadership by making a substantial and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake contemporary scholarly teaching in postgraduate and where required, undergraduate, and honours programs including online and face to face learning. Coordinate units and develop distinctive strategically aligned course and unit content.
  • Undertake high-quality research of international standing, secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion.
  • Provide academic leadership in supporting the University's values driven culture by contributing to the collective effort of building a successful collegial culture within the School that drives quality, excellence and distinctiveness in our learning, teaching and research.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate:

  • Current registration as a Psychologist in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and Clinical and/or Educational and Developmental Psychology Area of Practice Endorsement with no conditions, undertakings or reprimands.
  • A PhD in Psychology, or equivalent, for example, extensive experience as a Practicing Psychologist with Clinical and or Educational and Developmental area of practice endorsement, with supervision experience.
  • Current Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Status, with approval to supervise provisional psychologists during an accredited higher degree program 
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including blended and online educational approaches.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accreditation standards to curriculum development and implementation.
  • A substantial record in, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved international recognition and made innovative, and sustained contributions to the field of Clinical and or Educational and Developmental psychology, demonstrated by a very strong record of high-quality publications, presentations at conferences and success in securing external competitive and other funding.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level D and will have a total remuneration package of up to $192,939 comprising base salary within the range of $152,077 to $164,905 plus 17% superannuation.
