The College of Health & Medicine incorporates the School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, Menzies Institute for Medical Research and Wicking Dementia and Research Education Centre. The College provides world-class research and teaching, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University’s Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast and Sydney campuses.

The Opportunity

The Stem Cell Researcher / iPSC Biobank Bank Manger is responsible for establishing the Multiple Sclerosis focused induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biobank. This position will manage consent from participants, dealing with identified and deidentified human data, processing of blood samples to generate iPSCs, karyotyping and validation of the iPSCs, the differentiation of iPSCs into neural stem cells and the management of this resource. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and direct the activities of the iPSC Biobank.
  • Develop and implement a business case to ensure the sustainability of the stem cell facility in the future.
  • Supervise and mentor research by higher degree and honours students who are using cells form the Biobank.
  • Manage human research ethics applications related to the stem cell bank and associated projects.
  • Liaise with national and international researchers accessing samples from the facility ensuring protocols are in place. ­

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your cover letter will need to demonstrate;

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field and with experience working with human iPSC’s.
  • Extensive experience in the generation, maintenance and validation of human iPSC lines.
  • Current working knowledge of stem cell technologies and stem cell applications.
  • Experience in iPSC differentiation to produce and validate neural stem cell lines.
  • A clear understanding of Australia’s safety and ethical administrative framework.


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,533 comprising base salary within the range of $98,122 to $111,567 plus 17% superannuation.
