About the Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint the Head of School, Nursing as a transformative academic leader who shapes the future of nursing education, research, and practice. With strategic vision and deep sector insight, you will set the direction for a dynamic school, inspiring excellence across teaching and learning, research, clinical education, and meaningful community and industry engagement.
Leading the design and delivery of innovative, sustainable nursing programs that respond to evolving health and societal needs, you will accelerate research excellence with real‑world impact, and nurture a safe, inclusive, and people‑centred culture grounded in the University’s values.
As a senior leader within UTAS Health, you will forge strong partnerships across the University and with health services, government, industry, and communities. Through collaboration and influence, the role brings the full strength of the University to advance health outcomes, transform lives, and position nursing at the forefront of change.
About the School of Nursing
As part of UTAS Health, the School of Nursing works in close collaboration with Tasmanian and national healthcare partners to improve the health outcomes and educate the next generation of nurses and health professionals across Australia that are patient-centred, team-focussed and system-aware. The School of Nursing enables the future workforce through innovative learning experiences using contemporary digital and face-to-face delivery across undergraduate (Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Sydney) and postgraduate (Nationwide) programs.

What’s Required
We are looking for a strategic systems thinker that is people-centred and team oriented. Fundamentally, we are training the health workforce of the future and delivering on a research agenda that is focussed on what matters most for our communities – a successful leader will proritise our students and partnerships, drive a staff culture that values excellence and build connection to purpose, and model institutional leadership. In addition, you will bring to the role:
Academic qualifications and/or experience commensurate with a senior academic appointment in a Nursing discipline.
Leadership experience with a strong record of achievement in teaching, research, and engagement within a University or clinical education setting.
Experience shaping and sustaining a high-performing inclusive organisational culture of large teams.
Strong understanding of curriculum design, teaching quality assurance, and student experience enhancement.
Experience in research leadership, including fostering collaboration, maintaining research quality and integrity, and securing partnerships.
Sound financial and resource management capabilities, including budget development, forecasting, and efficient deployment of people and assets.
Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, risk management and regulatory frameworks.
Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders.
