Ongoing, full-time position based in Tasmania
About the opportunity
This newly created Statewide Medicine Program Manager role will unify and lead the administrative teams supporting the Tasmanian School of Medicine’s (TSoM) Medicine Program across multiple sites in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie. Embedded within UTas Health, the position plays a pivotal role in advancing the University’s mission by improving collaboration, operational consistency, and resource efficiency across the pre-clinical and clinical phases of medical education.
The role demands strong people management experience, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and a track record of leading change in complex environments. With a high level of autonomy, the Manager will act as the principal liaison between the Medicine Program Director and the professional staff teams through streamlining processes, mitigating operational risks, and aligning practices statewide. This is a compelling opportunity for a dynamic leader who thrives in collaborative settings and is motivated to contribute to Tasmania’s future medical workforce through excellence in service delivery and program support.
What you’ll do:
In collaboration with and in support of the TSOM Business Manager along with the Clinical School Team leaders and Clinical School Directors, oversee the day-to-day operations of the Medicine Program across the state at all three campus locations.
With a focus on finance, people, and infrastructure, provide senior administrative services to the Medicine Program Director and manage strategically aligned operational projects to completion as allocated.
Oversee the people management of the professional teams responsible for delivering the Medicine Program.
With a particular focus on LEAN thinking and practice, lead the optimisation of efficiencies through the Medicine Program operational integration with broader UTAS Health and University operational systems and services.
Support local professional staff team leaders within the Medicine Program to coordinate effective internal and external relationships, assisting with the oversight of PEP processes and engagement with PEP providers, and maintaining key partnerships.
Conceptualise, develop, implement, and maintain a strong Safety and Wellbeing culture throughout the Medicine Program’s service delivery units.
What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria):
A bachelor’s level qualification and preferably a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area, and relevant experience in an educational or health setting; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Familiarity with university governance and administration, end to end course delivery and student placement within a health setting.
Proven ability to take initiative, work autonomously, plan and prioritise complex tasks, lead teams, and communicate effectively.
Demonstrated high level of understanding and experience with safety, health and wellbeing legislation and operations, and demonstrated ability to implement and influence a culture of safe practice in the work environment.
