The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) is a research institute in Tasmania dedicated to research and development of sustainable agricultural industries.

The Opportunity

The Technical Officer will form part of a multi-disciplinary team in TIA’s Animal Production and Welfare Cluster, part of TIA Livestock Production Centre, providing support to RD&E staff through undertaking research and extension activities focusing on duties associated with pasture and animal research.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Occasionally instruct and supervise casual staff and students in correct and safe use of research and field equipment.
  • Correctly following research project protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of field, greenhouse and animal studies (mainly dairy cattle).
  • Sample and record experimental work, preparation of samples for laboratory analysis and data entry.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • Completion of an advanced diploma qualification and subsequent relevant work experience OR a combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Ability to competently undertake the practical activities associated with the establishment and maintenance of, as well as collection and collation of data from, field, glasshouse and animal experiments, with particular emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Organisational skills and a capacity to act independently within established guidelines, resolving arising issues using sound judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to adhere to OH&S guidelines.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $92,538 comprising base salary within the range of $70,822 to $79,092 plus 17% superannuation.
