The General Counsel and Executive Director Legal and Risk is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding legal professional and collaborative leader to contribute to the University of Tasmania during a period of profound transformation. The role is responsible for providing strong legal and commercial leadership, and high-profile decision making and will contribute to the University’s shared success through guiding strategic decisions based on commercial and legal analysis. The General Counsel and Executive Director Legal and Risk will hold a current practising certificate and demonstrate relevant expertise and experience.
The candidate will bring exceptional commercial judgement, proven risk and reputation management, and impeccable integrity. Success will be achieved by working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure the University’s audit, legal, crisis and risk management needs are appropriately considered and addressed. The General Counsel and Executive Director Legal and Risk is part of the Chief Operating Officer’s senior management team and works closely with the Vice-Chancellor and the University Council.
The position will be located in Burnie, Hobart, or Launceston and is offered for an initial period of five years.
